I couldn't resist bidding for this negative and obviously won it at auction. This is the former Great North of Scotland station at Mormond on the line from Fraserburgh to Maud Junction and is depicted here in BR days as Mormond Halt which had been implemented by the LNER in 1939. A pretty and pristine station building in my opinion but closure came in October 1965. the line was finally demolished in 1979.
On 6/7/50 the train is entering Mormond Halt from the Fraserburgh direction, the previous stop was Lonmay, and is headed by GNSR Pickersgill designed D41 class 4-4-0 no. 62228 which had been built by Neilson's in December 1893. 62228 was a Kittybrewster allocated engine when this shot was taken which limits the date range for this shot to somewhere between September 1948 and August 1951 when it was transferred to Keith whence withdrawal came in February 1952.
