A dramatic shot of 'W' class 2-6-4T no. 31920 at Lingfield on 17/3/62. This rake of condemned wagons is depicted here heading for the wagons graveyard that would eventually extend six miles southwards from East Grinstead (Low Level).
31920 was a Maunsell designed engine built at Ashford and entered service with the Southern Railway in August 1935. When this shot was taken she was a 75C Norwood engine and would be withdrawn at that shed in July 1963.
