Fairburn 2-6-4T's were a common sight on SR metals through the 50's and into the 60's but it was unusual to see one on South Western metals as depicted here where we see no. 42118 alongside Fowler 3MT 2-6-2T no. 40026 between platforms 2 & 3 on the Windsor side of Clapham Junction with both locos pointing northwards. In fact no. 42118 wasn't one of the Southern contingent but was a visiting and 1A Willesden engine whilst 40026 bears a 14E Kentish Town shed plate which narrows the period when this shot was taken to sometime between April and December 1962. Note that 'targets' rather than 'totems' were still the order of the day here.
