I periodically have a moan about the alleged data supplied with purchased material and this is a good example of why. "9617 Eastleigh 1963" it said on the sleeve and at least the location was correct. The featured engine is Collett 5700 class 0-6-0 pannier tank no. 9677 with an 87J Goodwick (Fishguard) shed plate whilst the Maunsell Schools class 4-4-0 in the background is 30918 which was withdrawn in October 1961 and cut up in the November which probably settles the date but I was puzzled as to why 9677 was there as it was never a Southern engine.
John Lewis has helped out with this one: "GWR 9677 was sent from Goodwick to Eastleigh and it arrived there on 12 Oct 1961. It returned to Goodwick on 11 Niovember 1961 having had a heavy/intermediate overhaul, according to the WR Loco allocations Register."
