One of the small pleasures of my hobby is to find an image of a well remembered but little photographed location and Wandsworth Common is one such. Here we see Fairburn 4MT 2-6-4T no. 42091 with the 12:15 ex-Victoria to Tunbridge Wells West on 9/8/59 and two running-in boards thrown in for good measure. 42091 was a Brighton works product in 1950, transferred from Brighton shed to Stewart Lane in 1952 and only three months after this shot was taken would be allocated to Neasden never to return to the Southern.
Note that the short set of BR Mk 1 blood & custard livery coaches was typical of a Sunday working which this was.
