An interesting shot I think. Modified ex-GWR Hall class 4-6-0 no. 7914 Lleweni Hall ascends the short but steep climb onto Battledown flyover in 1962 but what attracted me to the shot is the Bulleid 3-car set behind the drawbar and the single indicator lamp at the 12 o' clock position. I'm used to seeing images of GWR 2-cylinder 4-6-0's south of Basingstoke but they are in charge of inter-regional stock. Comments welcome.
I invited comment and got one! "I would suggest this may be a Portsmouth - Reading stopping service (effectively a Portsmouth - Basingstoke train which then formed a Basingstoke - Reading service). I also suspect that the headcode displayed of a single lamp below the chimney was the WR 'ordinary passenger train' one."
