A beautifully lit shot of Maunsell 'Q' class 0-6-0 entering platform 6, the Oxted line platforn, at East Croydon. The red liveried birdcage stock adds interest as does the 75 shed plate to this undocumented shot. 30547 was a 75C Norwood engine from 3/49 (BR branded in 8/49) until 10/55.
David Woodcock, helpful as ever, has this to add: "the carriages are 7-set no.903 with BT S3353S to SR diag. 156 leading and the train is the 5.20pm London Bridge-Tunbridge Wells West. Set 903 was only formed in June 1954, so, with semaphore signalling still in use and the long shadows indicating that sunset is nigh, this photo was almost certainly taken in October 1954."
