RCTS: Invicta Special 12/9/54
This tour of predominantly East Kent rather strangely started from Liverpool Street behind a pair of ex-GER J69 0-6-0T's which took the train under the Thames to Blackheath No. 1 siding where the Southern took over proceedings for the rest of the day. This shot of Wainwright 'D' class 4-4-0 no. 31737 was taken during the brief stop at Strood on the second leg of the tour which would see 31737 being replaced at Rainham by Kirtley 'R' class 0-4-4T no. 31671.
31737 would live on to become a much admired exhibit in the National Collection at York Museum following on from many years in the erstwhile Clapham Transport Museum.
