The workman's train that ran between Brighton and Lancing was wittily and ironically nicknamed the 'Lancing Belle' being the polar opposite in terms of speed andcomfort associated with the titled trains on the Southern. The 'Belle' was usually double-headed by all manner of available motive power and this is a typical example departing from Shoreham behind an unidentified Wainwright 'C' class 0-6-0 and Brighton allocated Billinton E4 class 0-6-2T no. 32566 in September 1953.
