SR Wainwright 'C' class 0-6-0 no. 1291 in charge of a birdcage set with a GUV tacked on the rear. The train is a Ramsgate - Ashford service depicted having just passed Harbledown Junction south of Canterbury. The crossing gates at the right edge of the frame are on the Elham Valley line whilst the overbridge carries the line to Dover away to the right.
1291 was built at Ashford in 1908 and would survive into the nationalised era acquiring its BR branding in April 195 but withdrawal wasn't far away coming in April 1953 at Bricklayers Arms shed.
