LSWR Beattie 'Volcano' class 2-4-0 express engine no. 116 formerly named Stromboli. As shown here it no. 116 has undergone considerable rebuilding by Adams which wouldn't save this this short lived engine from the scrapping process following withdrawal in 1898 and having been built only some twenty nine years previously at Nine Elms works. There are no sleeve notes with this large glass negative but the location seems to be rural. What I thought was a marquee in the background is actually washing drying in a breeze. Northam, if it had an engine shed, might prove to be the place in question.
