Ramblers Excursion: The William Penn Special 15/5/55
In my entire collection of film material I think this must rate as just about the most unusual combination of subject matter. We're at Great Missenden station on the Metropolitan & Great Central railway's metals looking northwards towards Aylesbury. On the right is Drummond T9 'Greyhound' 4-4-0 No. 30719 which had brought the special up from Waterloo in the morning and overtaking it is Thompson L1 2-6-4T No. 67749 hauling LT electric stock on a Baker Street service which will become electric loco hauled at Rickmansworth. William Penn was born in Great Missenden and is buried in an unmarked grave at Chalfont St. Giles.
