LBSCR Marsh I1 class 4-4-2T no. 5 at East Croydon in v1911. No. 5 was built at Brighton in September 1907 and was one of a class that's widely regarded as failures but the penny finally dropped when Maunsell superheated them progressively and turned them into useful motive power at last with this example getting the treatment in August 1931. Several of the I3X's survived into the nationalised era but this one was the only example to have its BR number, 32005 in March 1948, applied before eventual withdrawal at Eastbourne shed in June 1951.
