Adams 'O2' class 0-4-4T W24, formerly named Calbourne but now in unlined black livery and shorne of nameplates, enters Ryde Pier Head station with a PGV (Passenger Guard's Van) on 19/6/65. This unusual appearance was in connection with the derailment of W22 halfway along the pier which is illustrated elsewhere in this collection. Mark Brinton informs me that the bogie vehicle is one of the four PGVs converted from SECR Third Brakes in the mid 1950s to replace the LSWR PGVs. The work was undertaken at Ryde Works using stock surplus following the 1950s branch lines closures on the Island.
