Surprisingly, this was the only occasion I ever used Vauxhall station as a photographic vantage point. This was on June 1st 1967 and I'd gone there direct from my work lace in Morden specifically to photograph this train as there was something special about it but I don't recall what that was. I think it was the 1854 to Southampton Terminus and it might well be that it was the only guaranteed steam working from Waterloo in the evening rush hour. On this occasion it was hauled by Bulleid rebuilt light pacific No. 34040. I remember I was in a panic because the light was fading at a rate of knots.
