As well as being a nice picture to look at this is also of historical interest. Depicted is SR Bulleid designed original Merchant Navy pacific no. 35007 Aberdeen Commonwealth straining at the leash on the ascent towards Honiton tunnel with the Down 'Devon Belle' Pullman service in July 1949.
35007 has its BR number (obviously) and the SOUTHERN roundel on the smokebox door has been replaced by the new number plate but what is worthy of note is that the tender is still marked as 'SOUTHERN'. 35007 was a Salisbury engine when this shot was taken.
