LCGB: The Green Arrow Rail Tour 3/7/66
This was the tour that disappointed so many as the booked loco, Gresley V2 no 60919, had reached the south from Dundee but failed before it could take up its assigned duties although there was a brave attempt to coax it back to health but it failed a second time. Here we see part of the outcome in the form of Stanier 'Black 5' 4-6-0 no. 45493 piloting Bulleid rebuilt West Country pacific no. 34100 Appeldore on the approach to Dorchester South Junction having just passed through West station. The impressive fortification in the left background is actually a Victorian folly that houses a military museum and is only a four minute walk away as I type this. Incidentally, 45493 was allocated to Banbury shed at the time.
