London Transport's railways are, from an archivist's viewpoint, a joy to behold as they combined third rail electric traction with steam operations until 1971 nearly 3 years after BR brought down the curtain on the latter. The system was odd in another respect insofar as operaions north of Rickmansworth required a change of traction until 1960 in order to continue journeys to Aylesbury.
