Gresley rebuild from a Raven 4-4-4T, class A8 4-6-2T no. E9856 is depicted at Eaglescliffe station. Early BR livery with the number painted on the buffer beam and BRITISH RAILWAYS in full on the tank side. Behind the bunker is a rake of Gresley steel panelled stock built as articulated twins in 1938/39 for Darlington-Saltburn services. Nearest the loco is a diagram 269 twin brake third + lavatory third followed by a diagram 271 twin lav'y compo + lav'y compo.
