Yet another Thompson desecration of a fine looking Gresley locomotive design is his 1941 rebuild of D49 no. 365 The Morpeth to become an inside cylinder 4-4-0 as depicted here and as I understand it simply designated as 'D' class. This shot was taken in 1947 by which time its LNER 1946 number 2768 had been applied. 2768 acquired its BR '6' prefix in August 1948 and soldiered on as a Starbeck allocated engine until November 1952 but was withdrawn following an accident.
A viewer has informed me that 2768 is at North Ferriby on a Down local which was unusual as Starbeck engines didn't usually turn up in Hull.
