LNER North Eastern Steam Engine
Sometimes I wax lyrical over a picture and this one fell into that category from the moment that I viewed the negative with the naked eye as it reeked of exceptional content. This shot also proves that many in this collection of negatives were taken before nationalisation. Here we see Wilson Worsdell A6 class 4-6-2T no. 9791 resplendent in virtually ex-works condition piloting an unidentified WD 2-8-0, probably LNER no. 3044, through Harrogate station.
9791 had been outshopped following a general overhaul in September 1947 and was allocated to Starbeck when this shot was taken. Withdrawal from service from Hull came in February 1951.
