LNER L2 class 2-6-4T no. 6158 on shed at Neasden in 1938. This class entered service with the Metropolitan Railway in 1925 and was essentially a Maunsell design. This example was the first to enter service as MR no. 111 and would pass into LNER ownership in 1937 being painted in LNER plain black livery following overhaul at Stratford Works. All of this class spent their relatively short working lives allocated to Neasden. No. 6158 survived long enough to receive its LNER 1946 number 9070 and even carried on into BR days but was withdrawn in October 1948 without being rebranded as 69070.
