Gresley D49/1 4-4-0 no. 281 Dumbartonshire resplendent in lined apple green livery and bearing a headboard for Edinburgh. Dumbartonshire was built at Darlington works in 1928 and came full cycle being scrapped there in 1961 subsequent to withdrawal from service at 64G Hawick mpd only a month previously. I had no idea of the location until Malcolm Peakman opined that it is almost certainly Edinburgh and probably Haymarket shed. What fuzzied my own thinking was the presence of an Ivatt D1 in the background but apparently many were cascaded to Scottish duties. The date isn't known but none of the other negatives in this particular batch dates from earlier than 1935 or later than 1940.
