Gresley D49/2 4-4-0 no. 214The Atherstone is one of the class fitted with Lentz valve gear and is depicted here at Sheffield in 1934. Its BR number 62752 was applied in April 1948 and withdrawal was from Starbeck shed in July 1958.
My plea for precise location data for this and many other negatives has been answered by Vic Smith:
"This is the east end of Sheffield Victoria, viewed from the end of the longest platform.(No.1 ?) The signal box was later replaced with a brick base structure and the signal bridge replaced with two signal gantries.
By 1951 the wires were up, the signals gantries had disappeared and only the signal box brick base remained.
