A 1938 picture of LNER Gresley A4 pacific no. 4489 Dominion of Canada at King's Cross station. Worthy of note are the garter blue paintwork, the CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway) bell, stainlees steel raised numbers and letters on the cab and tender sides, the Canadian coat of arms below the cabside sumber and the stainless steel strip along the bottom of the vallance and tender bodywork. The works plates, displaced by the coat of arms, were affixed inside the cab. 4489 became 60010 in BR ownership and was one of the class that found itself moved to Scotland for the three-hour Aberdeen to Glasgow express services and was withdrawn at Aberdeen's Ferryhill shed in May 1965. Cosmetic restoration and preservation followed together with export to the Canadian Railroad Historical Association (CRHA) as a gift from BR. At the time of writing 60010 is temporarily back in Britain and is scheduled to remain here until 2014.
