RCTS/SLS: Aberdeen Flyer 2/6/62
Gresley A4 pacific no. 60022 Mallard was in charge of thr first leg of this two day jolly that started from King's Cross and ended at Euston. The intention was that Mallard would 'fly' non-stop through to Edinburgh but fate brought another type of fly into the schedule in the form of one in the ointment as 60022 was brought to a halt by a failed engine on a preceding goods train. There must have been some creditable hard running thereafter as the special, on a tight schedule anyway, arrive at Waverley station only some 17 minutes late which was when this shot was taken at around 14.42. Waiting in the background is A4 no. 60004 William Whitelaw which left on time at 14.56 and kept time through to Aberdeen.
