An unfortunate trace of motion blur does little to mar this shot of Gresley A4 pacific no. 11 Empire of India in its 1946 LNER guise arriving at Newcastle with asn Up express from Edinburgh. No. 11's BR branding was applied in March 1949 whilst allocated to Haymarket shed which was its home from 1938 until June 1962 after which she was an Aberdeen Ferryhill engine until withdrawal in May 1964.
I often wonder about these dates and this is a case in point as I photographed 60011, complete with nameplates, in the scrap line at Darlington on May 2nd 1964.
