RCTS/SLS: The Jubilee Requiem 24/10/64
Photographed from the top step of Tempsford signalbox with just enough light available, 60009 'Union of South Africa' storms towards Newcastle where the arrival would be in very different weather. A Geordie colleague just happened to be visiting his mam that weekend and he witnessed this train's arrival in rain.
Tempsford box was on the up side of the ECML set into an embankment with Tempsford Station Yard, the asphalt at the right marks the spot, on the down side. The station had closed in November 1956.
