As fine a portrait of one of Gresley's superb A1 pacifics as one could wish to see. This undated view features No. 2568 Sceptre in bright sunshine at King's Cross probably not long after naming in October 1925. Sceptre would be upgraded to an A3 in 1942 and would become BR No. 60069 whilst allocated to Heaton shed in July 1948. withdrawal was from Ardsley mpd in October 1962. According to Yeadon Sceptre the race horse namesake was quite some gee-gee winning The Oaks, the 2000 guineas, the 1000 guineas and the St. Leger all in 1902.
