RCTS/SLS: The Jubilee Requiem 24/10/64
Somewhere near Sandy and photographed from the top step of a signalbox with just enough light available, 60009 'Union of South Africa' storms towards Newcastle where the arrival would be in very different weather. A Geordie colleague just happened to be visiting his mam that weekend and he witnessed this train's arrival in rain.
The location has been pinpointed by Vic Smith as Tempsford 'box between Sandy and St. Neots. The box was on the up side set into an embankment with Tempsford Station Yard, the asphalt at the right marks the spot, on the down side. The station had closed in November 1956.
