One of the graceful Great Central Railway atlantics, in this instance Robinson Jersey Lily C4 class no. 194, depicted here in GCR livery at Nottingham Victoria station. Note the six wheeled carriage in the left background. It isn't sharply focussed but the one visible letter seems to be an 'N' suggesting GNR origin. Chris Knowles-Thomas to my rescue with historical background:C4 class, GCR No 194, so presumably photographed early in LNER days. Its first LNER No. would be 5194 and it was numbered thus Oct. 1925. It became 2901 under the 1946 renumbering scheme and was withdrawn in Nov 1950 without getting its allocated BR number 62901. Yes, ex-GNR stock in the background. It was a joint GCR/GNR station by the way.And a little more from Tony Walmsley: Victoria station was served by GNR trains from Grantham and Derby amongst other places most of which left to the south and ran via London Road High Level station.
