Big Bertha was a unique locomotive designed by Henry Fowler with a single purpose which is defined in her other nickname The Lickey Banker. Midland Railway 0-10-0 No. 2290, nominally a 9F, served a single purpose and that was to assist, or bank, heavy loads up the steep climb from Bromsgrove to Blackwell on the MR's main line from Bristol to Birmingham and that she did successfully until withdrawal from service in 1956 as BR No. 58100. We see her here in a rather distressed state in the 1930's but with no date or location supplied.
