Former L&YR, Hughes designed 'Dreadnought' 4-6-0 LMSR no. 10416 at Agecroft shed in 1929. 10416 was built at Horwich and entered service as L&YR no. 1517 in October 1908 fitted with Joy valve gear but was rebuilt in 1920/21 with Walschaerts valve gear and larger cylinders. Although those rebuilds were considerably better performers and regarded as a success it didn't necessarily guarantee a long working life as 10416 was withdrawn in 1936.
