TRPS: Talyllyn Special 28/9/57
This must be one of the oddest combinations of motive power even by the standards of the Talyllyn Railway Preservation Society which used to excel in that area when chartering trains for their AGM's. The preserved City of Truro had brought the special of only 7 coaches unaided from Paddington to Shrewsbury where this unlikeley duo took over haulage duties for the journey to Towyn as it was then called but Tywyn today. The pilot engine is ex-Lancashire & Yorkshire 2-4-2T No. 50781 whilst the train engine GWR Dukedog 4-4-0 No. 9021. This shot was taken at Welshpool on the outward journey but the ailing 50781 was later failed whilst being serviced at Machynlleth and was replaced by BR Standard 2MT 2-6-0 78006.
