One couldn't wish for a better visualisation of what Lichfield looked like in LMSR days with a 'Watford' 0-6-2T on the High Level line and LMSR Whale designed 4-4-0 no. 5278 Precursor departing from the Low Level station with a stopping service. 5278 was the prototype of the class built at Crewe and entering service in March 1904 as LNWR no. 513 but withdrawal came in July 1936 after only 32 years of service.
A viewer has pointed out that this shot would be in the early 1930's as the shed plate is on the smokebox door rather than the cab roof
