The prototype LNWR Bowen Cooke 'Claughton' 4-6-0 no. 2222 Sir Gilbert Claughton at Crewe in 1922. The class name was derived from this loco's name and he was the chairman of the LNWR when the loco was built at Crewe in 1913. The LMSR wisely renumbered this class sequentially with 2222 becoming no. 5900. Withdrawal was in March 1935.
