Quite a lot is known about this picture with the exception of its date but even that might come to light one of these days. The location is Annan on the G&SWR and we see here ex-LNWR rebuilt Claughton class 4-6-0 no. 5910 J. A. Bright departing with the 14.10 stopping service from Dunfries to Carlisle. This was part of the roster operated from Preston which was the 10.52 Preston - Carlisle stopper, light engine to Dumfries, the service illustrated here and then the 16.20 back to Preston. 5910 was a Bowen Cooke designed loco built at Crewe in 1914 and entered service as LNWR no. 250 whilst the LMSR no. was applied in 1927 and withdrawal came in 1937.
