LMSR Hughes 'Crab' 2-6-0 no. 42901 with a very short goods train at Shaw's Spring on November 4th, 1961.
I had no idea where Shaw's Spring was other than that it must be in the northwest of England but David Woodcock's diligence and persistence together with definitive confirmation from Andy Cooper of the Manchester Model Railway Society confirms that the “Shaws spring” photo is of Whitekirk Brick & Tile Works, the then terminus of the truncated Darwen-Hoddlesdon goods only branch of the L&YR.
42901 was allocated to Agecroft shed when this shot was taken and would eventually see the end of its days at Gorton in May 1965.
