SLS: Star Special 11/9/55
Churchward Star class 4-6-0 No. 4061 Glastonbury Abbey outside the Foundry with the Pattern Store behind surmounted by the water tank at Swindon Works. This visit to Swindon started and ended at Birmingham Snow Hill and was hauled throughout by 4061 as the tour's title suggests. The outward journey was via Cheltenhan and Bath whilst the return was via Didcot, Honeybourne and Straford-upon-Avon. 4061, built at Swindon in May 1922, was withdrawn from Wolverhampton Stafford Road shed in March 1957. No. 4003 Lode Star has mercifully survived to this day albeit as a stuffed and mounted exhibit.
