In retrospect it's incredible that we in Britain were still building new locos in 1950 that were essentially a Churchward design dating back to 1906 albeit enhanced somewhat by Collett. Seen here in superb external condition at Kemble is 1950-built Castle class 4-6-0 7035 Ogmore Castle. The slide isn't dated but the 85B Gloucester Horton Road shed plate tells us that it was taken between 3/60 and 12/62. As a mere child in human terms 7035 was withdrawn at 81A in June 1964 and was just shy of 14 years of age.
