NZR (New Zealand Railways) W class 4-6-4T no. 679 on January 27th, 1965. Smokebox end. Andy Maciver writes: "NZR (New Zealand Railways) No 679 is in fact a Ww class, as altered for work on a Fell centre-rail incline (note the cutaway in the middle of the cowcatcher). I believe the pic to be taken at Dunollie at the foot of the Rewanui incline. The van to the left is one of the Fell brakevans, which had braking gear to act on the centre rail. The W class were 2-6-2t locos also used on the Fell lines. One survives, steamable. Three Ww survive and all are steamable."
