What a shame that the central subject of this image, the engine itself, isn't quite sharp as it's an otherwise super photo. The engine is one of the 1700 series of outside framed 4-4-0's built by Beyer Peacock between 1901 and 1905 and bears a remarkable resemblance to contemporary Dean locomotives built for the GWR in England. The loco's precise identity isn't known but Arend van Raalten opines that the location is almost certainly Ommen (see my images of the DE5 unit) and the train is entering the station from the direction of Emmen.
