South African industrial steam railways
Standing in for one of the mine's own locomotives, ESCOM (Electricity Supply Commission) 2-6-0ST Hunslet [HE 790/1902] - from the nearby Grootvlei Power Station (Southern Transvaal) - shunts Springfield Colliery's 4-8-2T No. 2 in 1980. Previously at Daggafontein Mines near Springs, the ex-South African Railways G-class locomotive [No. 206] had been built by the North British Locomotive Company [under works number 16069/1904] for the Natal Government Railways - and first entered service as NGR B-class No. 259.
