South African steam railways - Cape Western sytem.
South African Railways class S2 0-8-0 shunting locomotive No. 3719 is pictured in the reclaimed Foreshore area of Table Bay Harbour in 1973, with the Dock Road Power Station and city centre tower blocks in the background - plus the unmistakeable bulk of Table Mountain. The cabside numberplate is surrounded by the "TBH" and "Rangeer" [= shunter] plaques that were applied to these locomotives, to identify their dockside duties at Cape Town - and also at Port Elizabeth (when plated "PE"). No. 3719 had been built by Friedrich Krupp [under works number 2984/1952].
