South African Railways class 15E 4-8-2 No. 2879 heads a passenger train approaching the girder bridge on the new alignment at Kransfontein (OFS) in April 1968. This locomotive, fitted with rotary cam valve gear, had been built by Henschel & Sohn [under works number 23001/1936]. The original alignment can be seen in the foreground, closer to the rocky outcrop from which this view was obtained.
