A subject that I've long coveted for my collection of negatives (and slides) is the operation of former Collett 1600 class 0-6-0 pannier tanks in the north of Scotland. Here we see no. 1649 in charge of the branch service at Dornoch in 1958 which was soon after its arrivals in these parts. 1649 had long been a Bristol St. Phillips Marsh engine but was transferred to Helmsdale shed in June 1958 and remained there until withdrawal in December 1962. The Dornoch branch had already closed to passengers on 13/6/60
